I took some time this week to re~evaluate my computer time and blogging habit
I am finding I am spending way too much time writing and (especially) reading blogs and not enough time doing the important stuff like...living in the now
My blog is called ... "my free time"... well the pace I have been keeping lately leaves me ..."no free time"
Before the spring gets here I decided I need to create a schedule for blogging and all computer time (facebook too)
I thoroughly enjoy blogging and sharing and meeting... I just need to do it less often.
Do any of you feel the need to cut back and if so how do you do it?
EDITED: thank you all for your honest comments so far... i am looking forward to more of them
i am going to mull all this over this weekend and i will be back with a decision and some commentary
xo

Yes and yes again. I have been having trouble with this for months. I find I am here all day or at least 6 to 8 hours. Now I am home so I have the time but I am doing nothing else. So what I am doing now is dividing people into different folders in my Reader.
ReplyDeleteI am weeding through them and will delete as I go along. I am thinking about taking my favorites, which there are many, and maybe reading 20 each day so I visit each one each week.
Yes and no. There are things I could and should be doing, but I also have a much smaller list of high priority items. I make sure to do those. The others . . . depends on my mood and free time.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! I do spend a lot of time blogging and reading blogs, but I have to prioritize so that I make sure to fit in the things that need to be done in life. Part of the reason I started to blog was to hold me accountable to doing what needs to be done in my household: organizing, cleaning, cooking, decluttering and the like. Some days I do quite well and stay away from the computer most of the day. I try to give myself a to do list every day, and/or a set amount of time to clean and get things done. Completing either of those tasks gives me a sense of fulfillment that I am getting things done and not letting the computer take over my life. I actually feel much bette about where I'm at now and think I have a better handle on things
ReplyDeleteI like Just Breathe's idea. Only allowing yourself a certain amount each day but I would put a time limit on it instead of a blog limit. If you read 5 blogs in one day and each of those blogs has posted every day (7 posts) that's 35 posts. 5 minutes a post (including your comment time). That's almost 3 hours of blog reading. 10 blogs, 7 posts per blog, 70 posts total. 70 posts, 5 minutes per post, almost 6 hours of blog reading. That doesn't include time to write your own blog. 20 blogs a day is 12 hours of blog reading!
ReplyDeleteInstead structure your day. From 9-10:30 can be blogging. 10:30-12 can be chores. 12-1 can be lunch. 1-2:30 could be blogging. 2:30-4 could be errands. 4-530 can be prepping dinner. 530 can be dinner and the rest of the evening relaxed, reading a book. I stay at home all day and I had to make myself structure so I would get things accomplished. Now I'm overly busy and super productive :)
There was a time when I spent A LOT more time blogging than I do now because I was trying to build a readership. But I am VERY satisfied with the readers I DO have and find that I just comment on the blogs of people who I feel like I have a friendship with (like you). Maybe they don't feel that way about me, but I feel like I have more of a connection with some more than others. You know the people who are faithful to your blog and who are encouraging and fun to talk to, right? So, for those people (and really, there are only about 5 or so for me) I will read every post and usually comment on every one. Why? Because they always do the same for me. Other blogs I follow are usually either just to see decorating pics, recipes or if they have some really interesting topic, I read it. Maybe you could just sort of evaluate who you really WANT to keep up with and who you don't and just focus on reading and commenting on those few. And post only when you just HAVE to share something great! Or need to get something off your chest, etc. It doesn't have to be everyday. Although, I have enjoyed your crafts lately! Don't sweat it...this is supposed to be fun. Unless you're doing this to get sponsors, readers or for money, like a job, then don't worry about treating it like a job.
ReplyDeleteI am still new to the blogging world... but yes, I spend a lot of time reading, posting, and writing!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! Welcome to my life! That was part of my lent sacrifice - to not go on the computer until I spend quiet time w/ God first. It is so fun, but it is almost a fake universe in some ways! lol...
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you decide! Maybe I can take some tips! :)
Yes, I hear ALL of you gals!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am in Blogland way too much too. But I try to only jump on for a few minutes here and there, and only put a few posts up in a week... THe projects I want to post about take up a lot of time too,(which is why that rug project isn't completed!) So... I just do what I can, and remember "everything in moderation"! :)
I blog and FB too much too. I try to only log onto the computer during one of my baby's naps, but sometimes I log on a couple times . . . um guilty confession, this is my 3rd time on blogs and FB today. :(
ReplyDeleteI am anxious to hear what you come up with. I am new to the blog world and I am finding I spend alot of time on here. Fortunately my kids are older now and so I have much more free time but my challenge is that I am so inspired by all these blogs but I spend so much time looking that I don't make anything. I am considering starting my own as I have always been a crafter and decorater. I like the point that was made that she started blogging to keep herself accountable, I think that would work for me. Anyway, looking forward to what your answer is!
